From Box to Community — 3 Simple Steps

Getting your FoldingLink Box up and running is easier than you think. Follow these three steps and you'll be connected to your own private DeSocial network in minutes.

Step 1: Insert the Hard Drive

Step 1 - Insert hard drive

Open the drive bay on the bottom slot of your FoldingLink Box and insert your hard drive. The slot supports standard 2.5" and 3.5" SATA drives. Push it in firmly until it clicks into place — no tools required for most models.

Tip: Make sure the device is powered off before inserting the drive.

Step 2: Connect to Your Network

Step 2 - Connect to network

Power on your FoldingLink Box and connect it to your router via the included Ethernet cable. Once the device boots up, it will display a Wi-Fi network selection screen on its front panel. Select your home Wi-Fi network, enter your password, and tap confirm. The device will then prepare your hard disk automatically with one click — formatting and encrypting it for secure DeSocial storage.

Step 3: Scan the QR Code & Log In

Step 3 - Scan QR code

Once your FoldingLink Box is connected to the network, a QR code will appear on its display. Open your phone's camera and scan the QR code to download the FoldingLink app. After installation, log in to your account and your device will be paired automatically. You're now live on your own private DeSocial NAS node.

You're All Set

That's it — three steps and you're part of a network that belongs to you. Explore the FoldingLink app to manage your files, connect with your community, and take full control of your data.

Frequently Asked Questions

What hard drive sizes does the FoldingLink Box support?

The FoldingLink Box supports standard 2.5" and 3.5" SATA hard drives and SSDs. The Base model supports one drive, the Plus supports two, and the Max supports up to four drives for expanded storage capacity.

Do I need a computer to set up the FoldingLink Box?

No. The entire setup process is done through the FoldingLink mobile app on your smartphone. Simply scan the QR code on the device display to download the app and complete setup in minutes.

Is my data encrypted on the FoldingLink Box?

Yes. All data stored on your FoldingLink Box is encrypted by default using your personal private key, which is generated and stored only on your device. No one — including FoldingLink — can access your files.

Can I access my FoldingLink Box remotely?

Yes. Once your device is connected to the DeSocial network, you can securely access your files and social features from anywhere in the world through the FoldingLink app, without routing your data through any third-party servers.

What happens if I forget my password?

Your FoldingLink account uses a cryptographic key stored on your device. We recommend backing up your recovery phrase during setup. If you lose access, your recovery phrase is the only way to restore your account — this is by design to ensure true data ownership.

Is the FoldingLink software open-source?

Yes. The FoldingLink DeSocial protocol is 100% open-source. You can audit every line of code on our GitHub. We believe transparency is the foundation of trust.
